Corporate Networks and Business Influence in Panama, Costa Rica, and El Salvador

Objective/Context: This paper explores the relationship between corporate networks and business influence to figure out conditions of state capture. Methodology: We analyze through interlocking directorates in three Central American countries – Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador using network analysis, we pinpoint structure two political actions: contributions presidential campaigns revolving doors. Conclusions: Results show were fragmented countries, except for a well-connected cluster Panama. The organization elites based on single cohesive could facilitate coordination finance parties, which gives them more strength demand government posts. On other side, absence connections makes it difficult reach agreements weaken influence. Findings suggest that networking among some (not all) can be source precedes capture, as organizes access collective mobilization resources coordinated action planning.
